Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong - Help Families in Tai Po Rebuild After the Hong Kong Fire
The recent fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po has devastated our community, leaving countless families without homes and the resources they desperately need. As we witness the profound impact of this tragedy, it has become clear that immediate relief is only the beginning. To truly support these families, we must focus on long-term housing support that will provide them with a stable future.
Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong stands ready to lead this effort. With our expertise in post-disaster recovery and experience in addressing the unique needs of elderly residents, we are prepared to roll out comprehensive housing support that will not only restore homes but also rebuild lives.
We have launched a fundraising campaign and have been working with local NGOs on the ground. We are also reaching out to the Housing Bureau to better understand the government’s plans for the rebuild and how Habitat can best support. In the meantime, we are focused on providing essential household items such as blankets, beds, tables, chairs, rice cookers, portable heaters and kettles.
The provision of basic household items not only addresses immediate practical needs but also contributes significantly to the emotional and psychological recovery of families affected by the crisis. It helps them regain a sense of normalcy, stability, and community, facilitating a smoother path towards rebuilding their lives.
Here’s how Chamber members can help to support our response efforts:
- Make a donation: Habitat for Humanity Hong Kong | Help Families in Tai Po Rebuild After the Hong Kong Fire
Your contribution will help us to continue delivering essential household items such as blankets, rice cookers, folding chairs and tables in the short term, as well as provide long-term support. 100% of donations made via our platform will go directly to support the families affected by the Tai Po fire. Besides, www.Give.Asia will donate to cover all the bank transaction fees, ensuring that 100% of your donations reach the families in need. If you prefer to donate offline, please email enquiry@habitat.org.hk
- Volunteer with us: We are mobilising volunteers in the coming weeks and months. If you would like to volunteer, please register here: Volunteer Registration Form – help families in Tai Po rebuild after the fire. Once registered, you will receive updates about volunteering opportunities for ongoing recovery efforts in the coming weeks and months. For each service day, volunteers will need to sign up individually via a Google form, and once confirmed, they will be added to a WhatsApp group for ease of communication.
Together, we can build homes, communities and hope.
About Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 in the U.S. with a vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat has been in Hong Kong, since 2004. We provide direct services to vulnerable elderly people living in public rental housing and low-income families living in subdivided units, making an immediate improvement to their living conditions.
As well as delivering direct services such as deep cleaning, decluttering, pest control, renovation, home modifications, furniture and relocation support, Habitat’s goal is to contribute strategically and through a systems approach, to a more inclusive Hong Kong where everyone has access to adequate and affordable housing.
Our mission is to bring people together to improve housing conditions, giving a hand up to people in need, and strengthening communities to be more self-reliant and resilient.
