International Perspectives

This panel will explore how and why certain digital health strategies have worked and what it took to get these implemented. Our speakers will showcase practical applications, outcomes, financial savings, etc. to give you an understanding of the success stories from an international perspective. The discussion will then explore the regional possibilities for HK and the Greater Bay Area.

 

About the speakers

Dr Ali Parsa is a British-Iranian healthcare entrepreneur and engineer. He’s the founder and CEO of Babylon, the revolutionary artificial intelligence and digital health company. Babylon’s mission is to put an accessible and affordable health service in the hands of every person on earth.

Dr Parsa was listed in The Times 100 people to watch. The Health Service Journal recognised him as one of the ‘50 most influential people in UK healthcare’. He was featured in the Maserati 100, a list that recognises game-changing entrepreneurs who are disrupting the world of business. The Independent Healthcare Awards presented Dr Parsa with an Entrepreneurial Achievement award. He is also a UK Cabinet Office Ambassador for Mutuals and has a PhD in Engineering Physics.

 

Cole Sirucek is an investor and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience founding, investing into and otherwise supporting entrepreneurial ventures. He is currently the Co-Founder and CEO of DocDoc, the world's first patient intelligence company. He is also a  Managing Director of Founders Equity Partners, a direct secondary investment firm.

Prior to DocDoc, Cole spent seven years in the direct investment team of Temasek Holdings. In this capacity, he has successfully invested over US$500M in private equity direct and secondary transactions. He has also served as an Independent Member of the Board of Directors for Global Eagle Acquisition Corp, a US$190M, NASDAQ listed SPAC focused on the media and entertainment industry.

Cole attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

 

 Karin Munasinghe has been working in the healthcare industry for 20 years based out of Hong Kong and covering the Asia Pacific region. Prior to that she started her professional career in the UK. She has held various senior management positions for MNC’s such as Eli Lilly, Medtronic and Baxter. She is currently the Senior Vice President of Marketing for the Asia Pacific region at Fresenius Medical Care.

Karin has an MBA from London Business School, a Ph.D. in Genetic Engineering (King’s College, London) & recently completed the Financial Times Non-Executive Director’s diploma.

In her spare time, she mentor’s healthtech start-ups & is one of the Co-founders of the Healthcare Dialogue networking event (www.healthcaredialogues.com).

 

 Piret Hirv is the Manager of Connected Health Cluster and the leader of the health-tech division in Science and Business Park Tehnopol.She is an active and valued member in various international health technology networks, facilitating the development of healthcare services through the implementation of connected health solutions, supporting companies in finding suitable development partners, and also helping to find partners to scale-up innovative solutions (also cross border).

Prior to working at Tehnopol, Piret worked as an Advisor for E-Servies and Innovation at the Ministry of Social Affairs in Estonia, supporting the digital transformation processes in healthcare and innovation. She also took part in implementing Estonian EU Presidency eHealth policy program and was acting as a liaison officer for international organizations and networks coordinating cross-border healthcare-service activities.

Piret has a medical background: she is a trained nurse and has worked in the pharmaceutical industry. In addition, she has many experience in lobbying, being the former CEO of an organization specialized in development cooperation.

 

Rhys McWhirter in the Eversheds Hong Kong office and leads the Technology practice. He has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating high-value and strategic commercial and technology agreements and has acted for both government and private sector clients throughout Asia Pacific on complex commercial and digital transformation projects.

Rhys has advised various clients on a broad range of commercial and TMT transactions, including complex supply and service agreements, FinTech, technology outsourcing & digital transformation and data privacy projects.
