Retrofitting Buildings for Climate Action

Enhancing the energy efficiency of existing buildings is essential to meet carbon reduction targets. Yet, retrofitting old buildings is a big challenge in Hong Kong due to complex ownership, and limited incentives or requirements from authorities. Recently, there have been some initiatives to promote building energy efficiency. For example, HKGBC has developed a Retrofitting Guidebook for existing buildings to provide technical guidance on improving energy performance. In parallel, we are also seeing the use of green and sustainable finance, and the consideration of carbon credits produced from carbon reduction of buildings. In the long run, the success of carbon reduction of existing buildings will hinge on the receptivity of various measures, policies, instruments and institutional arrangements to incentivize the market to retrofit inefficient buildings.

Join us for this breakfast briefing where our speakers Cary Chan, Andy Yeung and Amie Lai and moderator Vincent Cheng will discuss the following:

  • Policy initiatives and incentives
  • Guidelines and standards for retrofit practice
  • Green and sustainable finance for building owners
  • Carbon credits for buildings
