Sustainable offices – what does the future hold?

With sustainability at the forefront of many Boardroom agenda’s, the discussion will focus on what landlords and investors are doing in this arena to help benefit tenants and future proof Hong Kong’s real estate sector.  Topics to be covered include the future of the workplace and space, tenant/end-user engagement initiatives, social opportunities and impacts, sustainable development, green financing and the importance of ESG from an investors perspective.  Join industry leaders from across the sector as they provide their insight on this hugely important topic.

 

About the speakers

Ariel Shtarkman is Managing Partner of Undivided Ventures, VC platform investing in early-stage technology companies which have identified a pathway to a more sustainable future for the built environment - real estate, infrastructure and cities. She is also the Founder of Orca Capital, boutique investment firm and family office focusing on real estate and technology. 

Previously, Ariel was with Citibank Real Estate Structured Finance in Hong Kong, where she structured debt instruments for real estate developers, REITs and private equity funds. Before joining Citibank, she worked in real estate private equity funds sponsored by ING Clarion in New York (covering US) and ING Real Estate Investment Management in Hong Kong (covering Asia).
 
Ariel holds an MBA from Columbia Business School with concentration in Real Estate, and BSc from Tel Aviv University with double major in Computer Science and Business Administration. She serves as Senior Content Adviser of Urban Land Institute (ULI) Asia Pacific, and is ULI Global Governing Trustee. Ariel is fluent in English, Hebrew and Russian, and conversant in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. Her other interests include martial arts, integration of technology and real estate, and the future of education.

 

Ms. Cheung is responsible for marketing Phoenix’s investment services, developing and maintain client and consultant relationships. She led the taskforce to drive sustainable development and ESG initiatives across the APAC platform, with a priority on decarbonization, diversity, and ensuring adoption of transparent and accountable governance frameworks such as GRESB and UNSDG.
 
She previously held the role of Head of Asset Management and managed Phoenix’s Pan-Asia residential portfolio with a Gross Asset Value of over US$2 billion. She and her team worked closely with Phoenix’s project management team to bring the best practices to the APAC assets portfolio with considerations on sustainable design, community engagement and transparency, as well as pursuing market-leading environmental certifications.
 
Prior to joining Phoenix, Ms. Cheung served in various positions at Swire Properties and Sino Group, accumulating over 18 years of experience in large-scale and luxury residential and multifamily portfolios across Asia Pacific.

 

Mark Lam is the Head of Investor Relations & Corporate Sustainability.  He is responsible for managing the Group’s relationships with stakeholders across the investment community, as well as the development and implementation of the Group’s sustainability strategy.

Prior to his current role, Mr Lam served as a Senior Corporate Finance Manager, where he supported the development of Group-wide strategies, including investment evaluations and board reporting.  Before joining Hongkong Land, he was a Director at KPMG’s Deal Advisory practice, advising investors on cross-border transactions across the region. 

Mr Lam is a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of British Columbia.

 

Mr King-wai Lo is the General Manager of Office Leasing of Sun Hung Kai Properties. He manages the company’s Hong Kong office portfolio with about 11 million sf of grade A offices.

Before joining SHKP, Mr Lo has worked for Central Plaza Management, Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation, Savills, CBRE and JLL. He has over 20 years’ experience in office leasing and asset management.

Mr Lo is a professional member of both the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology.  

 

 

About the moderator

 Shaman has 19 years’ experience in the real estate industry across Asia and Europe. As Senior Director | Asia at Colliers, he advises clients across the hotel & commercial real estate sectors in Hong Kong and key international markets. He works with hotel owners, operators, family offices, PERE funds, developers and other investors. He is Chair of BritCham’s Real Estate Committee, part of the ULI Hospitality Development Council and a member the China Real Estate Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong & International Chapter. He is licensed under the Hong Kong Estate Agents Authority, qualified in 'Hotel Real Estate Investments and Asset Management' and is co-founder of YAMA Foundation (yamahk.org).
