Recent Developments in Hong Kong Listed Markets

Hong Kong is a leading global IPO market and one of the world’s largest capital markets. Whilst COVID-19 has caused many challenges over the last two years, the IPO market has continued to perform. Join the Chamber to hear from FSDC in relation to their recent paper on ‘Hong Kong as an International Financial Centre – Enhancement of Hong Kong’s IPO Offerings’ and from HKEX on their reforms to enhance the listing regime for Overseas Issuers and in relation to SPACs, and a broad discussion on the continued developments of Hong Kong’s Capital Markets.

 

About the speakers

Bonnie Y Chan is Head of Listing at the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited.

Ms. Chan has over 25 years of experience in legal and financial services. She started her career in private legal practice, worked in a number of investment banks and was a partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell before assuming her current role.

She was Head of IPO of the Listing Division at the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited between 2007 and 2010.

Ms. Chan has served on various public service bodies, including the Financial Services Development Council, the Inland Revenue Board, the Standing Committee of Company Law Reform and the Disciplinary Panel of the HKICPA.

Ms. Chan graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1991 and Harvard Law School in 1993. She is admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong and an attorney at law in New York State.

 

Dr Au is Executive Director of Financial Services Development Council (FSDC). Prior to joining the FSDC, he was President of Value Partners Group Limited. Dr Au also served as CEO of Eastspring Investments (Hong Kong) Limited and CEO of BOCHK Asset Management Limited. He also held various senior management positions at other financial institutions including Baring, GMO and HSBC Global Asset Management.

Dr Au was named CEO of the Year in Hong Kong by Asia Asset Management in 2012 and 2014. He was awarded the Medal of Honor by the HKSAR Government in 2008 for his valuable contributions to the securities and asset management industry. He was also the Chairman of the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI) from 2006 to 2008 and the Chairman of the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association in 2004/2005.

Dr Au is currently serving as a Council member of the Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Public Accountants, an Index Advisory Committee member of China Securities Index Co., Limited and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Hong Kong among other public services.

Dr Au is a CFA Charterholder and a Senior Fellow of HKSI. He received his BA in Physics from the University of Oxford and PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics from the University of Durham.

 

About the moderator

David is the Executive Director of the Chamber and is responsible for the Chamber’s overall management, its financial status and staff. David has over 30 years of experience in legal and financial services.
