Digitised Decarbonisation of the Built Environment

Digitised Decarbonisation of the Built Environment

Sponsored by Environment & Energy Committee and Innovation & Technology Committee

Speaker:

David Ross, ICL Partner Operations Manager, IES
Graeme Robertson, Global Sales Director, IES

Digital technologies have a key role to play in the decarbonisation of the built environment. The successful planning and implementation of decarbonisation projects requires an interconnected suite of digital tools that can help planners, designers, managers and users make decisions across a complex set of possible actions and investments. Digital technologies can provide the complex modelling, analytical and simulation capabilities needed, supporting the needs of diverse user groups including citizens and other service users.

During this webinar, Graeme Robertson will provide insight on the use of digital technologies to deliver decarbonisation and share case studies and demonstrations of the technologies in action. The key points that will be covered are:

  1. An overview of how digital tools support the planning, decision making and implementation of decarbonisation projects.
  2. Examples from a diverse range of organisations that are using digital technologies to decarbonise.
  3. Demonstration of the key configuration processes involved in the development of a digital twin for decarbonisation of the built environment.
  4. Recommendations for organisations getting started with digital decarbonisation technologies, including limitations and advice on how to tackle the most common challenges.

Details on how to join will be sent via email by 5pm the day before the webinar.

About the speaker

David’s knowledge and background in developing low-carbon building energy strategies through the use of detailing building physics modelling are bolstered by his passion for sustainability, which he uses to play his part in tackling global climate change.

As a chartered engineer and accredited low carbon energy assessor with over thirteen years of design consultancy experience, he has a great understanding for energy and carbon emissions associated with the built environment, and more importantly, where savings can be achieved.

David’s industry experience is supported by his qualifications, which include a MSc in Sustainable Energy Technology and a BEng(Hons) in Building Services Engineering.

Graeme has worked in the field of energy management for over 30 years and began his career as one of the first batch of UK graduates in energy engineering, back when only two degree courses were available in the UK.

During his early years Graeme worked in the field of Building Energy Management Systems, progressively building on a strong technical background to encompass security, lighting control, life safety, IoT and systems integration before moving into energy modelling and digital twin technologies.

Graeme has written in numerous technical publications including a chapter in the book “Advanced Engineering Technologies in Healthcare” published by the Royal Chartered Institute of Mechanical Engineering.
