The co-CEOs of Eversheds Sutherland, Lee Ranson and Mark Wasserman, will open the event by giving their perspectives on the top challenges and trends that are impacting global business today.
 
The event will then go into a more in depth panel discussion with Mark Herlach, Ginger Faulk, James Lindop and Adam Ferguson focusing on the rise of global protectionism and international trade nationalism in particular. Mark and Ginger are global trade specialists based in the US. They regularly speak publicly about foreign investment, government policy, industrial security, international trade and sanctions and cyber-security. James is based in the UK and he has extensive experience on all aspects of international trade, including on contractual rights and obligations, export controls and economic trade sanctions. Adam is based in Hong Kong and he has over 15 years’ experience in providing strategic competition law advice to clients in a wide range of industry sectors. He leads the firm’s competition practice in Asia.
 
With their global trade expertise, the panel will dive deep into case studies and explain how the rapid changing geopolitical environment, particularly on China-US trade dispute and Brexit, impact your business.

About the speakers

Based in London, Lee Ranson is Co-Chief Executive Officer of Eversheds Sutherland and member of the Global Executive and Global Board.
From 2009 Lee was the firm’s Managing Partner with responsibility for the day to day operations of the business and practice groups across Eversheds' offices in the UK, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Prior to this Lee took up the leadership of the Real Estate and Real Estate Litigation Group in 2006.
In terms of his own practice, Lee joined the firm in 1990 as a commercial litigator handling a wide range of complex disputes for HSBC, Lloyds and TSB. 

 

Mark Wasserman has been the Managing Partner of Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP for 13 years and is the Co-Chief Executive Officer of Eversheds Sutherland Limited. He leads the firm’s lawyers and staff in collaborating to provide high quality, efficient and creative service to the firm’s clients. 
With more than 30 years of experience, Mark is a seasoned corporate lawyer who has represented and advised private and public companies, both in the United States and internationally. He counsels clients on a broad spectrum of business matters, especially mergers and acquisitions and issues relating to federal and state securities laws.


 Adam Ferguson has more than 15 years’ experience in providing strategic competition law advice to clients in a wide range of industry sectors, including financial services, manufacturing, transport and logistics and retail. He has regularly represented clients before the UK and EU competition authorities in the context of cartel, dominance and merger investigations and currently leads the firm’s competition practice in Asia.
Adam is recognised as a leading competition lawyer by Chambers and Legal 500, who describe him as being “widely praised by peers and clients alike…very impressive – good with clients and great at handling complex relationships” (Chambers, 2014) and “adept at presenting a very technical area in clear language” (Legal 500, 2014).

With nearly 15 years of experience, Ginger Faulk represents multinational companies in matters involving US government regulation of foreign trade and investment. She has extensive experience advising and representing global companies in the energy, defense, aerospace, telecommunication, software and other high-tech industries, counseling clients in matters arising under US sanctions, export controls, import and other national security and foreign policy trade-related regulations. 

 



James Lindop is a Partner in the Competition, EU and Trade practice group and leads the international trade practice.
James advises on all aspects of international trade, including on contractual rights and obligations, export controls and economic trade sanctions, import tariffs, product classification (import and export), Rules of Origin, anti-dumping, countervailing duty and safeguard measures, WTO law and trade-related due diligence in the context of M&A transactions. He has acted on numerous major international transactions requiring an assessment of the applicability of export controls and sanctions as well as providing specific advice to companies in respect of compliance.


Mark Herlach is an international lawyer with a practice focused on energy, international trade and defense matters. With deep experience in Asia, Europe, and North and South America, Mark represents a broad range of clients, including corporations, advanced-technology companies and governments. He has guided clients in a broad range of complex matters, including international mergers and acquisitions and import relief, export control and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigations. Mark routinely advises on cross-border transactions, cyber-security, defense, foreign investment, government policy, industrial security (FOCI), international trade and sanctions matters.
