With an ever-evolving macro business landscape, exponential pace of change in technological development, and ever-increasing customer expectations, marketers and business leaders need to be aware of trends and ways to stay ahead of the curve.

Adrian Warr, Managing Director at Edelman, Edward Bell, General Brand Manager, Insights and Marketing Communications at Cathay Pacific Airways, and Widhadh Waheed, Chief Marketing Officer at CompareAsiaGroup will share marketing trends to look out for in 2019 in a panel discussion, moderated by Barrett Bingley from The Economist.


About the speakers

Adrian Warr leads the Edelman Hong Kong office. He is a communications consultant whose work in New York, London and Hong Kong with some of the world’s best consultancies has given him experience in corporate, crisis, branding, marcomms, employee engagement, public affairs and digital marketing.

Adrian has been lucky enough to work with amazing people whose names he will happily drop at the first opportunity, including the leaders of companies like HSBC, Cathay and Mars as well as individuals such as Kofi Annan, Cherie Blair and Princess Christina of Spain.

Over the years his clients have included Samsung, Google, ebay, Coca-Cola, Tencent, Pepsi, Cathay Pacific, and many other global brands.

Adrian is on the board of The Hong Kong International Literary Festival and is a committee member of The Male Allies.


Edward Bell is responsible for the development of brand strategy, the development of commercial, operations and consumer insights, loyalty marketing and marketing communications for the group globally.

New to the Cathay Group, Edward has spent his career to date mostly working as a marketing strategist and later CEO for marketing and communication consultancies across Asia and Greater China, working for a diverse set of brands and businesses from global beverage brands to state owed banks. During this time, he also served as adidas Greater China's Director of Marketing Communication, responsible for the 2008 Olympic campaign.

A seasoned marketing professional, Edward is the recipient of the prestigious IPA and Jay Chiat awards for marketing effectiveness and strategy in addition to multiple AME and Effie awards. A frequent speaker and author on the topics of marketing, creativity and innovation, Edward is a keen contributor to the marketing and student communities.


Guy Parsonage is Partner & Leader of the PwC Experience Centre where he is responsible for driving digital transformation and innovation for global brands in and out of Greater China.  With a remarkable record in agency leadership, strategic marketing and iconic experience design, he is an industry pioneer.  Guy is a highly experienced marketer and passionate culture-builder, who brings the best out of all of those around him.




Before joining CompareAsiaGroup as Chief Marketing Officer, Widhadh Waheed was previously the Director of e-Business globally at Shangri-La, heading up all digital efforts for the brand. Prior to joining Shangri-La, she co-founded and sold multiple digital media companies. Prior to that, her advertising agency, where she served as CEO, helped Fortune 500 companies and fueled more than 1.5 billion dollars in acquisition value.

Widhadh majored in Architecture, B.Arch but also studied Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Oregon.


About the moderator

Barrett Bingley is the Director, Media Sales (North Asia) and Asia Initiatives and has been with The Economist Group for 7 years. In his practice he has developed the Sustainable Trade Index for the Hinrich Foundation, the Illicit Trade Index for TRACIT and conducted major trade research projects for HSBC, National Australia Bank and Commonwealth Bank.

In addition to his work at the Group, he has been the Chair of the AmCham Hong Kong Trade and Investment Committee for 6 years, serving on the Committee for a total of 8 years thus far.  He was also a Board Director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong for 4 years.  Barrett has recently joined the Society of Publishers Asia (SOPA) as a Board Director.

Prior to coming to Hong Kong, Barrett was the Senior Policy Advisor to the Canadian Foreign Minister and before that the Policy Advisor to the Trade Minister with a focus on Asia.
