What’s Your Tax Residency? The Common Reporting Standard – How is it impacting expat employees?

Please email yammie@britcham.com for more information

Have you recently received a letter from your bank asking where you were born and what your tax residency is? Do you know why?

In late 2018 Hong Kong’s Inland Revenue Department exchanged information on financial accounts held by tax residents with 36 jurisdictions worldwide, including with the UK’s Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs under the new due diligence procedures of the Common Reporting Standard (CRS).

These new rules will affect anyone who has investments or financial accounts outside Hong Kong. With many expatriates in Hong Kong with assets and income streams in both the UK and Hong Kong how does this affect you?

At this event Jason Pearce, Head of Technical Sales, HK & NE Asia, Old Mutual International will discuss exactly what will be reported, to whom, and when, and any actions you can take to minimise the inconvenience to you. He will explain how the exchange of information will eventually also encompass real estate and salaries; and if you should be concerned about the security of your data.
