Due to the Brexit vote being postponed, this webinar will also be postponed until further notice. Watch this space for updates.

Join this webinar hosted by Ros Kellaway, the head of Eversheds Sutherland’s Competition, EU and Trade Group and Adam Ferguson, Head of Competition, Asia, for what promises to be an interesting discussion on one of the most important political and business issues of recent times.

Under the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 Parliament must approve the Brexit deal before it can take effect. After five days of debate, the House of Commons will vote on Brexit on 11 December 2018. The vote will address both the Withdrawal Agreement and the political declaration on the future relationship (“Brexit deal”). Approval in this context means:

- Copies of the withdrawal documents must be provided to both Houses of Parliament (this has been done)
- The House of Commons must approve the Brexit deal
- The House of Lords must “take note” and debate the Brexit deal; and
- An Act of Parliament must be passed to implement the Brexit deal (“European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill”)

If the Commons approves the Brexit deal, the Government can introduce the European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill, giving domestic legal effect to the Withdrawal Agreement.

If, on the other hand, Commons does not approve the Brexit deal, this could trigger a “hard Brexit” in March 2019.
