Navigating the opportunities and the risks

Hear first-hand from a panel of senior business leaders of leading institutions in Hong Kong across key sectors – financial services, insurance, accountancy and the legal profession – about the opportunities for Hong Kong, and Hong Kong companies, in the GBA. About the speakers

Anthony Lin was appointed CEO of the GBA, Standard Chartered Bank in October 2020. Prior to assuming this role, he was the CEO of Standard Chartered Taiwan from March 2017. Anthony has more than 25 years of solid banking experience and has served as the President, China, Bank of America, N.A., and a key position in Deutsche Bank (China). He joined Standard Chartered as a management trainee in 1995 and held various key positions across retail and corporate banking segments in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Anthony was awarded the “Leading Talent in Shanghai” in 2012 by the Organisation Department of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and received the "Elite Foreign Bank Trade Finance Manager Award" from the Credit Rating Centre, Ministry of Commerce and the "Economy Magazine".

Anthony holds a Bachelor Degree of Computer Science and MBA Degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

 

Daniel Chan is the Head of Greater Bay Area at HSBC. He leads the GBA office, which oversees all strategy related activities and aims to capture opportunities brought by the Area’s economic growth and policy measures. 

With more than 30 years of banking experience, Mr Chan’s career spans across sales and marketing, commercial lending, product management, business strategy and development. 

He has held senior management positions at HSBC Singapore and Hong Kong, leading the business through periods of change to achieve sustainable growth.

Prior to his current role, he was Head of Business Banking, Commercial Banking, Hong Kong at HSBC. He was responsible for driving initiatives that support and empower entrepreneurs through digital and innovative solutions, ecosystem partnerships and connections to new business opportunities. He has led the digital transformation journey for Business Banking in recent years, delivering a customer-centric, simpler, faster and better digital banking experience to startups and SMEs in Hong Kong. Under his leadership, HSBC Business Banking has achieved multiple firsts in the market including award-winning digital and innovation solutions to enhance customer experience and brand profile.


Jennifer heads Eversheds Sutherland’s Asia employment practice. She serves as trusted counsel to multinational clients on Hong Kong and Asia-related privacy, cybersecurity and employment law matters.

She regularly advises on day to day operational employment matters such as hiring, separation, and performance management, along with discrimination, remuneration and business protection disputes. Jennifer regularly conducts training sessions for corporate clients on termination, remuneration, and equal opportunities issues.
Jennifer is a member of the Hong Kong Law Society, where she sits on the Employment Law Committee. Jennifer frequently consults with governmental advisory bodies and NGOs on diversity issues and labour law.

Jennifer is widely recognized as one of Hong Kong and the region’s leading employment lawyers. She is consistently ranked in the top tier of employment lawyers by Legal 500 Asia Pacific and Chambers Asia Pacific in their annual legal guides and has won a number of awards.

 

Loretta Fong has international vision and extensive experience in providing accounting, audit and transaction advisory services to private and listed entities in Hong Kong and the United States. She has also led and advised on numerous substantial transactions including acquisitions, disposals and privatisation of companies in the capital markets of these two locations. 

Loretta is dedicated to applying her knowledge, experience and influence in support of the development of the accounting profession in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. Loretta is a Council Member of HKICPA, Board Member of Ocean Park, Treasurer and Council Member of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Council member of the General Committee of the Federation of the Hong Kong Industries, Member of Mandatory Provident Fund Advisory Committee, and the Vice Chairman of the Finance & Administration Committee of YWCA. 

Loretta is also a frequent speaker at various organisations on topics including IPOs, M&As, ESG, and woman initiatives.

  

Sam Lim is responsible for transforming Prudential’s business for the future through innovation and digitalisation. He leads Prudential Hong Kong’s Operations and Transformation teams including Information Technology, IT Strategy, Strategic Programme Management, Digital Projects, and Change Management teams, as well as, Customer Service, Underwriting, Policy Administration, Claims Management, and Health Assessment Centres. Sam is also the Head of Greater Bay Area Programme Office for Prudential Hong Kong.

Sam has devoted over 10 years to corporate development and strategy. He joined Prudential in 2005, working in Strategy and M&A for Prudential Corporation Asia before heading Strategy and Projects at Prudential Hong Kong.
