Fairtrade and ethical markets are a competitive place. How do you differentiate yourself from your competition? How do you engage with market trends in order to succeed? At this breakfast briefing, Wander Meijer, Director at GlobeScan will talk about global trends in sustainable consumption and marketing. He will look specifically at  how sustainability can be integrated into the strategy and articulation of the purpose for a company and how this can be reflected in its marketing. In doing so, Wander will highlight the positioning of Unilever as a corporate leader in sustainability, which was cited as the main reason for the failed M&A bid from Kraft Heinz.

The moral or ethical purpose of an organisation is becoming increasingly important at a time when the new generation of consumer, otherwise known as Millennials, are seeking a more conscientious lifestyle. Concerned about the environment and social issues, they are also materialists who define themselves in part through brands – and they want to buy products that align with their values and are good for the environment and society. Therefore, they are looking to buy aspirational products and retailers need to stay ahead of their desires in order to succeed.
