The idea for the series was put forward by the Innovation and Technology committee and was created to provide a platform and sharing forum for IT professionals in Hong Kong looking to keep up with the latest trends, best practices and most importantly to hear practical tips on how to help grow their business. Some of the areas of discussion will include Technology Compliance for regulated industries, practicalities and benefits for de-centralised organisations as well as data protection and cross boundary issues.

Business Angel Programme

The British Chamber of Commerce’s Business Angel Programme, launched in late 2007, was the first such initiative to be launched in Hong Kong by any of the chambers of commerce. The British Chamber’s Angel Investment Committee is a well respected and leading source of advice and conduit to funding for young Hong Kong enterprises looking for initial or growth investment from our growing network of Angel investors. Since its inception, the Angel committee has reviewed applications from hundreds of enthusiastic Hong Kong entrepreneurs, introducing many of them to a wealth of Angel Investors and Professional Advisors drawn from the membership of the British Chamber. The Business Angel Programme runs a series of events every year which allows shortlisted candidates to present their business plans in front of a panel of investors and enjoy the opportunity to network and make valuable contacts. Smart Tips for Small Businesses

The “Smart Tips for Small Businesses” series, sponsored by CBRE, is a series of seminars that give practical advice on how to run a small business. Expert speakers give practical advice on topics of interest to SMEs and the wider business community. The series is co-ordinated by the British Chamber's SME Committee, a group of successful entrepreneurs, business owners and experts who understand the challenges faced by small businesses every day. Topics covered in recent seminars include "10 Lessons in Social Media", "Marketing Strategies for SME’s", "How to use Networking to Increase Sales", "Business Leads and Results", "Standard Working Hours – What this means for your business?" and "Making the Most of the Media". The seminars are held at lunchtime and the format of the seminar is a sandwich lunch, followed by a 45 minute talk by an invited speaker, with a Q&A session afterwards. The events are held at the CBRE offices in Exchange Square or at a centrally located venue, and are kept at an affordable cost to allow the maximum number of participants to attend. Seminars attract attendees from all industries and are open to all, whether Chamber members or not, providing a perfect opportunity to network and mingle with fellow business-minded people.
