Anthony Thomas, Deputy President for the UK Chartered Institute of Taxation will be giving a UK Tax update to members, including developments in UK Tax policy and administration in light of the Coalition Government.
Anthony Thomas is Principal of Thomas & Company, a firm of Chartered Tax Advisers based in Coventry in the West Midlands. He qualified as an ACCA in 1979 and became a member of the Institute of Taxation in 1980 setting up in tax practice in 1980 dealing mainly with the taxation aspects of the smaller business.
He joined the Council of The Chartered Institute of Taxation in 2003 having sat on the Council of the ATT, being the president in the 2002/03 year. He is a past chairman of the Joint Standards Committee; has previously served on Audit Committee and a past Chairman of the Birmingham branch. Elected Deputy President of CIOT in May 2010 and the council nominated member of the ATT.
Anthony joined the General Assembly of the Confédération Fiscale Européenne (CFE) in 2008, having an interest in European tax issues. Prior to joining the ATT and CIOT councils he was a council member of ACCA having chaired both the Investigations and Membership committees and the representative on the AAT council.
The CIOT is the leading body in the UK for taxation professionals dealing with all aspects of taxation. Their primary purpose is to promote education in taxation. One of their key aims is to achieve a more efficient and less complex tax system for all. Their comments and recommendations on tax issues are made solely in order to achieve this aim; they are an entirely apolitical organisation.
