Richard Coackley is currently the President of the Institution of Civil Engineers in the United Kingdom and Director of Power and Energy Development for the global professional services group of URS Scott Wilson.

Richard Coackley is Director of Power and Energy Development for the global professional services group of URS Scott Wilson, which has nearly 50,000 people in the engineering and environmental sectors, and he is responsible for major decommissioning and building of new plants in the nuclear and other renewable energy sectors. He has worked throughout his career in both contracting and consulting in the UK, and overseas in power, water and wastewater.
Richard plans to detail his vision of how we can best harness the energy of our natural renewable resources and engineer our built environment to lead to a more sustainable low carbon future, whilst maintaining commercial and cost-effective energy for the global market place.
Richard is currently the President of the Institution of Civil Engineers in the United Kingdom. In Europe, Richard is Honorary President of the European Council of Civil Engineers. During his Presidency he intends to focus on the need to harness new sources of sustainable energy, as well as harnessing the skills of engineers in close partnership with business and government to achieve a better future.
