Envrionment Committee briefing

The Chamber's Environment Committee is running the Environment Briefing Series: "Catching Carbon: An Elusive Goal?" throughout 2010 and the first briefing will be kicked off by Tim Lancaster of the Carbon Trust.

Tim's visit, sponsored by the UK Government, forms part of a 2-year programme of visiting nearly 50 important international cities worldwide as part of the UK Government's wider Prosperity Campaign. The purpose of the campaign is to promote the benefits and sharing of experience in moving towards a low carbon economy.

The Carbon Trust is an independent company set up by the UK Government in 2001 with a mission to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy. Since then, it has established a strong track record of achievements in carbon emissions reduction, low carbon technology innovation and investment, and in the strategic understanding of low carbon policy instruments.

To date, the Carbon Trust has helped UK  businesses save 23MtCO2 which equates to cost savings of 1.4 billion sterling. It also catalysed third party investment of 1 billion sterling pounds in energy efficiency and low carbon technology and supported the development of over 250 low carbon products and companies. The Carbon Trust has just established a Joint Venture in Beijing for technology transfer  and investment and licensed development of an Australian Carbon Trust.   Its product footprint label now appears on over 2,500 products and is being adopted by the Korean Ministry of Environment.

Tim Lancaster, Director in China of the Carbon Trust, will talk about the benefits for companies to move towards low carbon; practical steps for doing this; and the Carbon Trust's work in China.
