Founded in Hong Kong over a century ago, CLP Holdings has grown to be a leading investor-operator of energy assets in Asia. In Hong Kong, the company operates a vertically integrated electricity business, serving 80% of the city's population. Outside Hong Kong, CLP is one of the largest private sector company with investments in the energy sectors in the Chinese Mainland, Australia, India, and Southeast Asia. The company's portfolio include gas, coal, renewables and nuclear.
Andrew Brandler joined CLP as Chief Executive Officer in May 2000 and has been instrumental in overseeing CLP's expansion across Asia Pacific. Prior to joining CLP, Andrew has had an extensive career as a banker in the energy and utility sector in North America, Europe and Asia. His experience covers power sector deregulation in the United States during the 1980s and the UK electricity industry privatisation and deregulation in the early 1990s. Under his leadership, CLP established its climate change strategy and introduced a number of successful environmental management practices to greatly reduce the environmental impact of its generation portfolio, such as air quality in Hong Kong.
With Asia's governments placing high priority on energy security and sustainable development, Andrew will share CLP's experience in Hong Kong to illustrate the role of the power sector in supporting the region's goals and aspirations.
