James Stewart is Chairman of KPMG’s Global Infrastructure practice responsible for providing advice to Governments and private sector companies across the infrastructure spectrum. In the last six months James has visited some 25 countries to discuss their infrastructure investment plans.

At the breakfast, James will talk about the following:

•         Global infrastructure themes
•         Merits of the different infrastructure procurement models
•         What does private sector investment bring to infrastructure delivery?
•         How can the UK and China work better together?

Richard Coackley is currently the President of the Institution of Civil Engineers in the United Kingdom and Director of Power and Energy Development for the global professional services group of URS Scott Wilson.

Richard plans to detail his vision of how we can best harness the energy of our natural renewable resources and engineer our built environment to lead to a more sustainable low carbon future, whilst maintaining commercial and cost-effective energy for the global market place.

The Chief Executive's policy address this year has highlighted the needs for Hong Kong to expand its land resources in order to cope with the demand for supplying 40,000 housing units per year and other developments in the coming decade. In this regard, the Government has recently launched the first stage of the public engagement on Enhancing Land Supply Strategy through reclamation outside the Victoria Harbour and cavern development.

The Chamber's Construction Industry Group has invited Dr. Man Wai Chan to give an update on the current status of the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) project. Dr. Chan is currently Executive Director of Project Delivery at the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority. Prior to this, he was Vice President, Projects & Facilities at the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation. Dr. Chan has over 30 years of experience overseeing the planning, construction, and management of large-scale development projects. He is the founding president of the Hong Kong Institute of Facility Management.

 It is no longer enough to make design and specification decisions based on the financial cost alone without giving due consideration of any environmental impact witnessed throughout the life of the project.

The awareness of cost and environment coupled with legislative pressures, spiralling energy costs and higher profile public ethics is resulting in a need to demonstrate design choices that incorporate intelligent and sensible green sustainable solutions.

The presentation addresses the concept and methodology of linking the measurement processes for cost and carbon, in order to develop measurement efficiency and consistency in the industry.


 

 Apart from high speed railway development over several hundred metro projects are being developed or implemented around the world.  Many municipal and central governments recognized the need for efficient and effective public transportation system for their cities.  Developing mass transit railway system as the backbone of transport system has been accepted as the right approach. This presentation reflects on the major challenges in delivering such profound ambition.
 

 Following the successful close of the US$1.3bn Singapore SportsHub transaction the Construction Industry Group is pleased to invite James Harris from Hogan Lovells and Jon Sivertson from PwC to give a brief presentation on some of the key challenges faced by both the public and private sectors, the solutions developed and the overall lessons learned from this deal.
